Classes 13 - 16 garduate

This week four more BSAFE classes have graduated. These classes were supported by Honourable Dancia Penn, OBE QC as the Representative for the Eighth Electoral District and PricewaterhouseCoopers

Class13

Classes 13, 14 and 15 from Willard Wheatley Primary School were sponsored by Hon. Dancia Penn, OBE QC as the Representaive for the 8th District

Class 14

Thanks to the generous support from Honourable Penn, Willard Wheatley Primary School was able to have their entire class three, a total of 29 students, take part in the BSAFE program. Their classes were held, with kind permission, on the Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church grounds. “I feel privileged to have the full support of Honourable Penn,” said Chris Ghiorse, director of the BSAFE program. “Her confidence that BSAFE is providing benefits to the fabric of our community is a big confidence booster. I believe Honourable Penn’s sponsorship of these classes made a big impression on the students as well. They were keenly aware that without her support the program might not have happened at their school.”

Class 15

Althea Scatliffe Primary School completed their final BSAFE class this week. Althea Scatliffe has had 10 BSAFE classes and a separate “Learn to Ride” program with a total of 96 students attending over the past 6 months. “The final class supported by PricewaterhouseCoopers had 4 students, so I have used the additional funds to conduct a special class for the First Tortola Brownies,” said Chris. “The Brownies have to do a bicycle safety class to earn a badge. The BSAFE program will exceed the Brownie Associations badge requirements by providing the Brownies with helmets and expanding on the safety issues they need to cover.”

The First Tortola Brownies plan to conduct a fundraiser to help the BSAFE program with future classes. “I think it’s really neat that a service organization, composed of children the same age as BSAFE is targeting, wants to help,” said Chris.

The BSAFE program will take a short break through Easter and will be restarting with Ebenezer Thomas on April 16th. The BSAFE program needs donations for classes starting on April 20th, 2009.
