Recap Thank You Letter for the year 2008/09
Monday, July 6, 2009 at 7:52AM With the end of the school year BSAFE has concluded its first year of Level One and Learn to Ride programs. BSAFE is a free after school program, targeting Class Three students, was introduced to the BVI Public school system in October 2008.
Thanks to the generous support of sponsors and Elected Representatives BSAFE has had a fantastic first year and was able to reach all the public primary schools on Tortola.
A total of 259 students have passed through the BSAFE program in 2008/09. This is over 80% of the entire public school Class Three student body on Tortola. 241 earned a Level One Certificate and 18 earned a Learn to Ride Certificate.
I think the most important aspect of the BSAFE program is that I am able to provide each student with a free helmet upon graduation.
Next year I am planning to take BSAFE to our sister islands as well and I will look forward to teaching an even greater number of students safe cycling techniques.
The Title sponsors Caribbean Alliance Insurance and their agents Caribbean Insurers were instrumental in getting BSAFE off to a great start. Honourable Andrew A. Fahie for The Ministry of Education and Culture, Honourable Julian Fraser, RA as the Representative Third District Honourable Dancia Penn, OBE QC as the Representative for the Eighth District and PricewaterhouseCoopers were major contributors for multiple classes. Individual classes were supported by and many individual classes were supported by BDO, Burkes Garage, Harneys, Horizon Yacht Charters, International Motors, Kenny Tees, Last Stop Sports, Nerine Trust, Poolworks and Tropical Shipping.
I want to thank all the sponsors of the BSAFE program, without them I would not have been able to reach as many students. I have already started to plan out my 2009/10 school year and I am looking forward to continued fantastic support throughout the community.
Sincerely,
Chris Ghiorse
