First Ever Youth National Championships
Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at 8:09PM This Sunday, the 4th of October, BSAFE in conjunction with the BVICF will be holding the first ever youth national cycling championships.
This FREE event is open to all ages from 16 and under. The categories will be boys and girls 7 and under, 8-10, 11-13 and 14-16
“With the Ministry of Education taking on the role of title sponsor and a recommitment from many sponsors, I have been putting all my efforts into improving everything I started with BSAFE last year”, said Chris Ghiorse the director of BSAFE. “It has been a busy summer and now that the scholastic year is settled into a good rhythm I wanted to draw attention to youth cycling and build awareness of the program that is about to start up again.”
For the youth event on the 4th all you need to do is get there with a parent or guardian and BSAFE will provide the rest.
All the racing will be done on BSAFE BMX bikes and helmets will be provided for those who don’t own one. The format will depend on the number of entrants, but there will be a series of short, flat selection rounds to reach the final. “I have been to a few schools in preparation for the regular BSAFE program and the enthusiasm to take part leads me to believe we may see close to 100 children show up”, said Chris. “I think what it will boil down to is whether or not they can get a ride to the event, which is why I have been trying to organize a bus for the program.”
The Jason Bally Memorial Road Race is going to be going on at the same time, so there should be plenty of exciting action for spectators to watch both on and off the road.
