BSAFE Garduates another 34 Students from Althea Scatliffe Primary

BSAFE (Bicycle Safety Awareness For Everyone) program is excited to have graduated its first Level 2 students as well as three more Level 1 groups.  These students started their training back in mid November and due to the challenges of the holiday season only managed to do their final classes last week.

The Level 2 group was comprised of students who went through Level One last year and showed a variety of skills as well as continuous interest in the BSAFE program.

“I wanted to see how much the students remembered from last year,” said Chris Ghiorse the Director of BSAFE.  “I was very happy with the results and I will look forward to figuring out how I can incorporate more Level Two groups into the program.  I have a very full afterschool schedule commitment of Level One Groups and I will have to remain focused on this until I can find a way to raise more funds to hire someone to help me with all the demands being made by students and parents alike.  The BSAFE Level One Program is going to prove to be the foundation for all cycling oriented activities in the future.”

Most of the Level Two graduates wanted to know when they could sign up for a Level Three course.  Jhe,quan Mitcham, who is also the current Youth Cycling Champion for his age group said, “Level Three is racing”.   BSAFE agrees that the best solution is going to be to hold events where children can learn mistakes in a controlled environment that is not on any road.

Recent graduates of the Level One course when asked what they felt about BSAFE had this to say.  Anthony Glasgow smiled about having “fun learning to ride over the bumps.”  Deondra Frett said, “This is the best after school class ever!”   Neeville McKenzie admitted “I need to work on my braking” while Kevante Sprauve “enjoyed all the riding and learned about bike safety”

This year has been made possible by the incredible support of the Ministry of Education as title sponsors.  Burke’s Garage, Caribbean Alliance Insurance and their agents Caribbean Insurers are major supporters with Ogier and PricewaterhouseCoopers rounding out the support of BSAFE.  The program is being conducted on the Festival Ground in Road Town with the kind permission from Wickhams Cay Development Authority.

BSAFE only exists because of the generous support of its sponsors.  If you or your company would like to find out how to support the BSAFE program visit www.bsafe.vg  or contact Chris Ghiorse at 542-1981 or at chris@bsafe.vg
