Alexandrina Maduro and Ebenezer Thomas Graduates

The BSAFE  program conducted 2 week long classes for Alexandrina Maduro and Ebenezer Thomas Students during the Easter Vacation.  BSAFE is a free program that has now taught over 450 students better bike handling skills and given away over 500 helmets since it started in October 2008.

“I am very happy I was able to coordinate two successful classes this Easter vacation,” said Chris Ghiorse the Director of BSAFE.  “The students and parents enjoyed the daily routine and the courses proved to me that I could hold many week long programs this summer.  I continually have students from the Level One classes asking when I am going to do a Level Two class for them.  The summer is the only time available, because during the school year I am committed to reaching all the public school Class 3 students.  As always my summer program ideas will depend on my ability to find sponsors.”  “I think giving these students a solid week of cycling helped improve their overall learning rate.  I was especially impressed with two of the Learn to Ride students who managed to do nearly all the drills the Level One students are required to do.  I have taught a lot of young students to ride and this was a first.”

This year has been made possible by the financial support of the Ministry of Education as title sponsors.  Burke’s Garage, Caribbean Alliance Insurance and their agents Caribbean Insurers are major investors with Ogier and PricewaterhouseCoopers rounding out the sponsors of BSAFE.  The program is being conducted on the Festival Ground in Road Town with the kind permission from Wickhams Cay Development Authority.
