BSAFE Finishes School Year with Enis Adams, Ivan Dawson and Joyce Samuel Primary School Students

“I managed to get through all ten public schools on Tortola once again,” said Chris Ghiorse the Director of BSAFE. “Completing the BSAFE school schedule was made trickier this year with the birth of my daughter, Ava, in February and some extra rainy weather in the last 2 months.  I had planned to get to the sister islands, but between lack of funds and time available in the school year, I have put that plan on hold.  Unfortunately until I know where BSAFE will stand financially I am not sure how far afield I will get in the 2010/11 school year

The success of BSAFE is evident when students, immediately upon receiving the Level One Certificate ask, when they can take part in the Level Two program.

“The Level Two Program is something I am trying to introduce for the summer,” said Chris.  “So far I have not received enough financial support to hold any classes, but I am hopeful of some private companies stepping up.  With all my appeals for support I have realized the financial woes of the world have directly impacted programs like mine and I know a lot of other programs are suffering from lack of support as well.  I am grateful for what I have managed to accomplish so far and I hope the new school year will see the market become a little more donation friendly for all of us.”

Over 530 students have graduated from the BSAFE Level One and Learn to Ride programs in the two years since BSAFE started.

This year has been made possible by the financial support of the Ministry of Education as title sponsors.  Burke’s Garage, Caribbean Alliance Insurance and their agents Caribbean Insurers are major investors with Ogier and PricewaterhouseCoopers rounding out the sponsors of BSAFE.  The program is being conducted on the Festival Ground in Road Town with the kind permission from Wickhams Cay Development Authority.
